"Cooking requires confident guesswork and improvisation- experimentation and substitution, dealing with failure and uncertainty in a creative way” ― Paul Theroux
Knowing how to cook is one of life’s greatest skills and nothing is more important. It is a skill that can be used for survival, not only for your survival, but also for your family’s. A skill that can be used to save money or as an alternative to take away or eating out, and most importantly, a skill that can be used for enjoyment. This website will take you on one of life’s greatest journeys, the journey of learning how to cook. It will take you from a beginner home cook to a savvy home cook. To this journey, I welcome you.
For me this journey of learning how to cook began in high school and this what got me loving cooking and I can credit this to my Home Economics teachers through Year 8 to 12, but there was never a book or a website for ordinary people to follow, use as a resource or even as a reference. By creating this, I hope I have created an invaluable resource for you to use throughout your journey, a website of knowledge or a cooking companion.
When a person starts of on their journey of learning how to cook, they might have unrealistic expectation of what it requires. Cooking is not just about the following of a recipe to produce a meal for yourself, family or friends, there is much more to it.
In this website, I have included sections that will teach you how to select the right equipment, manage your time, and work hygienically and safely to protect yourself and the people whom are consuming your food. This website also allows for the understanding of the language cooking used and for the practicing of your skills. These skills are followed by recipes to help and enable your practice. There is also a section about healthy food choices that will allow you make informed decisions about what you cook with and enable you to understand the healthy benefit of cooking for yourself rather than buying take away, a prepared sauce or meal from the supermarket.
